The Sun After Kissing the Dawn (Danaë) [PRINTS AVAILABLE]
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
76 X 76 X cm
In this piece, I reimagine Danaë, the mother of Perseus, using gold glitter to represent Zeus as a shower of golden rain. Danaë is wrapped in a New Zealand woollen blanket, symbolising warmth, protection, and a blending of myth with the contemporary. The glittering gold represents divine power and seduction, while the wool suggests the grounding of her humanity. This fusion of classical mythology and modern materials reflects a timeless narrative of power, vulnerability, and transformation, rooted in cultural and personal history.
The skin is also treated as a grid, every square painted individually in different blue tones... to bring the blanket pattern into the body.
There is an iridescent gold glaze over the whole painting

You're No Picnic Either (Medusa) [PRINTS AVAILABLE]
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
76 X 76 X cm
This painting seeks to shed light on the often-overlooked story of Medusa, who has been mislabeled as a monster throughout history. In truth, Medusa was a victim of a cruel curse, punished for an injustice she never deserved.
Through this piece, I reimagine Medusa with a direct, unapologetic gaze. If you choose to look at her, it’s at your own risk – that’s a you problem, not a her problem.
The title references the old wool blankets often used for picnics but also asks, who are you too judge who's a monster and who isn't?
Blankets are often associated with notions of safety, comfort, and healing. In this painting, the blanket is used to evoke the idea of creating safe spaces for women, whether physical or emotional, where they can find support, healing, and empowerment

He Thinks I Still Care [PRINTS AVAILABLE]
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
150 X 50 X cm
I'm a little obsessed with the classic kiwi wool blanket. Little itchy, little scratchy but a constant in almost every kiwi home regardless of "class"
She’s reflecting on the man who left her, who believes she pines after him. She doesn't. He was just a lesson to learn.
The blanket symbolises her newfound empowerment. It’s a cocoon of self-love and strength, shielding her from past hurts and guiding her forward. A reminder that true power comes from within, and sometimes the most painful lessons pave the way to the greatest growth.

Making Friends With Who I Used To Be
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
100 X 150 X cm
This work references sewing patterns as a design motif, connecting to the matriarchs of my family and their craft traditions. Patterns & patterning have also influenced my emerging feminist narrative. There are many politics associated with the making, production and wearing of clothing and domestic textiles: symbolism, matrilineal craft traditions, gender roles and storytelling.
