As my exhibition is taking place in a public library in Mannheim this October as part of the "Lichtermeile", the book theme is of course an obvious choice. For me, books represent an opportunity to escape our world, to immerse myself in the fantasy of a story. When you're lying in a hammock, you can forget about reality and dreams start to appear on the walls of buildings...

After a whole series of sunflower pictures, I like this format best. It's less about a detailed depiction of the sunflower field and more about the heat of a late summer afternoon. You can almost hear the heat...a buzzing sweaty sound. You can literally feel it on your skin.

Here is the second picture of my series Schachfelder. In keeping with the monochrome and the computer theme: black and white chess squares and a clock that is running - time is fleeting. We should do more of what we enjoy - perhaps a game of chess? If you look at the two pictures in the series together, a new mood is created and new questions arise: why is the carafe empty? Flower pictures are something wonderful - they give so much color and space and mood. Here the bouquet in the vase was not yet finished. The feeling of putting something beautiful together in peace, taking time for it and at the same time knowing that it is only a matter of time before it expires, gives it a floating quality - a moment of timelessness.

At the end of a long day, after you have discarded everything restrictive. Relaxation and good company and a good red - perhaps a little flirtation? In this picture I play with two different brands. While I have mainly used Schmincke Horadam so far, I have recently discovered Daniel Smith - especially the dark colors have wonderful properties: high pigmentation and highly granulating. Just awesom.

Raindrop pattern looking upwards - the entire surroundings can be seen in each drop. If there's one thing that fascinates me, it's water. So here the water is playing a double game with me. A small reflection in every drop, forming a pattern. It's just clearing up.

There's usually always something going on in the backyard. You can hear children playing, music from different genres and countries, people chatting and you can hear their conversation like a quiet murmur - sometimes a little louder, of course...this was a rare moment of absolute peace on a hot summer's day. The couple together on the balcony and yet each lost in their own world on their smartphones. Peace and quiet.
