Born at Langebaan Air Force base on the West Coast, South Africa, Allin still nurtures a passion for the clarity and purity of the light in that region. This is frequently reflected in her artworks.

She became interested in pursuing art at the tender age of six, when she won first prize for her drawing at a local agricultural show.

Allin went on to study English and History at Stellenbosch University, and started teaching English in Uitenhage in 1981. With two toddlers and plenty of marking, art had to wait for several years.

In 2000 she started painting again, as a hobby, but turned professional in 2012.

With the support of her husband, Brian, she has now exhibited at various venues, such as Alice Art in the Garden, Mogale City Museum, Kagiso Memorial and Recreation Centre, Purple Heart Art and Framing, Robert Badenhorst Art Gallery and What the Fig Art.

She has sold various artworks to Australia, England, the US and the Netherlands. She has also recently curated four successful exhibitions featuring well-known local artists.

"The process of growth is always painful. Painting is a process of self-examination that is not as relaxing as some people think. It is hard work!

Sometimes I leave a piece for a while, because I cannot contemplate the way forward. I am now exploring creating authentic art, instead of reproducing what I see. This just means diversifying and examining my inner self, and painting what surrounds me emotionally."
