Fran The Man
oil on canvas
21 X 17 X 1 inch
This original oil painting was completed in the firey depths of south jerz one hot summer. The painting is a retrospective portrait of someone special on what was supposed to be one of the best days of their life. It was the best and worst of times - c'est la vie.
Compared to the reference photo, I saturated and exaggerated the juicy colors for a summer vibe to encapsulate the mood of that late summer day that predates me. Although the story of this person's mutual love on this day was eventually tainted, joy is forever distilled in her smile of assurance and hope for better days through the emotional turmoil and sacrifice that ensued thereafter. I don't think she cares for this painting, maybe because it brings painful memories from the marriage, but we don't talk about it. Fran is The Man because she wore the pants and still does.
I still adore the photo of her on her wedding day and never regret the painting despite the melancholy history of the moment. I love you, mom.
Hope the colors and vibe make you feel beautiful.
