Medusa
oil on canvas
110 X 90 X 4 cm
Medusa is a painting made with oil on canvas, worked in a glazing technique.
It show a lady (Medusa) as a reinterpretation of sexual abuse and the societal portrayal of its victims.
In the original story, Medusa was punished by Athena for being raped by Poseidon (Athena`s husband).
Which is why Medusa wore the snakes on her head, that turned anyone into stone, who looked into her eyes.
A brutal punishment for something she was the victim of.
Something that should condemn her to never be able to have real contact with others again, to never be able to allow real closeness ever again.
In my reinterpretation, I tried to turn that around. To use the snakes as protectors (hidden under her underwear). Also, I gave her back her innocence, through her angelic appearance. Making it something, no one can take from her, just like a man should never be able to take someone else’s innocence.
In all of this, she sits there confidently and sexy, with a man by her side.
Representing the healing that victims of abuse can experience if they are protected and supported, rather than stigmatized and socially ostracized.
The painting was displayed at the Medina Art Gallery in Rome in early 2025.

Broken Heart Syndrome
oil on canvas
140 X 100 X 2.5 cm
The painting was worked with oil on canvas, using a glazing technique.
It portrays a break up and the impact that sorrow can have on humans.
It shows a full body portrait of a mermaid, sitting on a big rock, in the ocean.
She has very long black hair and holds her own heart in her right hand, while next to it, you are able to see the hole in her chest, where the heart belongs, filled with flowers, still bleeding onto her.
The whole painting was worked mostly with blue and green colors, which build a strong contrast to red on her chest. The ripped out heart symbolizes a breakup. While she bleeds and is in pain, no one could ever take away her heart, it will forever be hers. Simultaneously flowers grow out of the hole in her chest, showing the personal growth you can experience after a break up.
Her face clearly shows her pain and excitement for whatever comes after the sorrow.

inner voices
oil on canvas
120 X 100 X 4 cm
inner voices is a painting worked with oil on canvas, with a glazing technique.
It shows our inner voices and how the way we talk to ourselves has an impact on ourselves.
Portrayed is black man, in the ocean, the water almost reaches his shoulders.
He wears his hair in braids, that each have a pearl, with a facial expression on it, hanging on its end.
Important to note is, that this painting is not a cultural statement or critique.
The vibrant colors of the pearls are a strong contrast to the overall more blue color of the background.
The painting shows different emotions, such as sadness, happiness and contentment, which all can be triggered by the way we talk to ourselves, the pearls represent our inner voices.

Lilly and her Lillies
oil on canvas
80 X 60 X 2.5 cm
How grateful are we for the most mundane things in life?
That's a question I asked myself, when I was working on Lilly and her Lillies.
She was worked in a glazing technique, with oil on canvas and shows a dark haired woman, bathing in a bathtub, while she's holding a bouquet of Lillies in her arm, which she smells.
The painting is about contentment and gratefulness for small moments and things. It's about holding in for a moment to truly feel and experience it. To smell the flowers and feel the warmth of the water.
