Bio

New to the artworld, Irish born Catsby Eyesore is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist currently working with coloured pencils. Her current fixation involves an entirely unique process of taking old and poor quality/pixellated photographs of deceased rap musicians from the 90s and using a range of visual information such as video together with her imagination to re-create the original in much higher quality whilst still maintaining the exact likeness of the individual, but with added intricate detail and enhancement. As such, the resulting portrait draws a fine line of balance between realism and an artfully styled drawing. This displays a vibrant tribute and celebration of life that respects the humanity of each person with every minute that goes into each drawing which can take hundreds of hours to complete, all done completely freehand

Business Insread of Game, 28 x 20 inches, Coloured Pencil on Rising Museum Board, 2005 This is a portrait of the rapper Biggie Smalls, the original referance was very poor quality and pixellated so i used a range of techniques to really visually enhance it and add a ton of extra detail that wasn't there. I watched alot of videos to glean the likeness of Biggie but also image searched the sweater, 90s dollar bills and Versace shades etc as well as multiple other photos of the rapper himself to recreate the iconic image of him from the 90s in much higher detail and vibrancy, and therefore truer to life as he was. Working without eyes, i wanted to enhance both the facial expression and also the reflection in the shades of the money to really create that feeling and reflect his personality.

2PAC, 14 x 11 inches, Coloured Pencil on Strathmore 500 mixed media, 2005 This is a portrait of rapper Tupac Shakur. Again the reference photo was really poor quality so I studied videos of the rapper to gain extra information on the facial features, specifically the shape of the jawline but also details around the eyes, eyebrows and jewellery. Although it appears as black and white portrait i have used subtle tones of actual colour to make it more dynamic.

Slim Shady, 14 x 11 inches, Coloured pencils, strathmore 500 mixed media, 2005 Again for my series of deceased 90s rappers I have depicted Eminems alter ego Slim Shady who he killed off in his latest album. Also working from poor quality reference this time I watched Eminems older music videos and movie to add not only detail but fine tune the facial expression to glean a slight element of sadness in his eyes and also an offensive vibe. Although it appears as black and white I've used colour here especially creams and very dark browns for a vintage feel and to make it more alive.
