The inspiration for this artwork came from antique nude photographs from the 18th and early 19th century. Whether it´s the sense of mystery, the stories one can build around them, or the realisation that depicting nudity was considered way more rebellious then, than it would be today, these old photographs have always been fascinating to me. In ´Simone´, I aimed to capture a tranquile, intimate moment. The kind of moments we have when all alone, that´s when we are most authentic. In these moments we can just exist, with everything we are. Our contradictions, our past, our future, everything... without judgement from others.

This Indian political and spiritual leader became known around the globe for his efforts to unite people despite their differences in skin colour or religion. His message to 'be the change you wish to see in the world' is as relevant today as it was halfway the 20th century.
