The Modern Hearth

Photography

40 X 30 X 1 inch

The Modern Hearth I stumbled upon this family's evening gathering at the end of a long day's work. As the children played and everyone settled around the glow of a television, I realized that every culture has its own hearth—a place where stories are shared and families reconnect. During my travels, I've often been struck by the quiet strength of communities where people instinctively care for one another and work together. This moment reminded me that, despite the miles between us and the different ways we live, our need for family, belonging, and connection is universal. In the end, we are all more alike than we are different.

The Name Game

Photography

40 X 30 X 1 inch

While wandering through an antique shop, I stumbled upon a bin overflowing with vintage name badges from another era. My heart skipped a beat. I had already begun envisioning the assemblage I was going to create from them. There was just one problem... the owner was away on vacation and no one knew how to reach him. Some things just aren't meant to leave with you. So I left with something else instead—a photograph and a story. I've always been drawn to the craftsmanship of everyday objects from years gone by. Even something as simple as a name badge was beautifully designed, thoughtfully made, and built to last. These weren't created as keepsakes or works of art, yet decades later they have become both. I often find myself wondering about the people behind these names. Charlie. Patricia. Tom. Barbara. Joy. Dick... Where did life take them?
